Today the Federal Communications Commission voted to repeal an Obama-era net neutrality protections.  The vote today was along party lines in a 3-2 decision.

There had been pressure to postpone the vote from groups who feel the repeal could negatively affect their business.  There was so much pressure the vote was interrupted due to a security threat which cleared the room.

The FCC protections were put in place to “protect” the masses from having slowed internet access from large companies like Verizon or Comcast.  Some see these protections as a form of Government overstepping its role and trying to control the internet.

This issue will face further scrutiny in the court and will most likely make its way to the steps of the Supreme Court.
